Henry Wise debuts with a story of right and wrong spun black and white while one man looks for justice and step out of his own shadow. Holy City is not a story to miss out on.
Will Seems is back in town, one of those rural hard to find on a map southern Virginia town. He’s been gone for quite some time after the passing of his momma. Taking a job as a deputy sheriff, Seems is adamant to put the past behind him and move on with his life, when the unexpected death of a friend upends his plans. Working with the sheriff to put the culprit of a murder behind bars, Seems knows something isn’t right as everything is happening too conveniently.
Working another problem behind the scenes to help an old friend out, people start becoming a little suspicious of Seems and start questioning his motive in trying to string along the case. As if there wasn’t enough confusion, the family of the murdered man hires a private detective who has her own baggage that didn’t come checked, as she starts her own investigation. Who ends up guilty in the end, depends on who carries through with the honest and integral duties bound by law enforcement standards. If Seems doesn’t follow through the wrong man may just get thrown in prison.
Henry Wise brings big town crime to small town America where the truth and people matter. Blending a little of everything into this honeypot of a ride, Wise mixes small town energy with intense storytelling all while keeping the pedal to the metal. Vicious and vile characters, knowing they have no limits, continue to plague this small town while the actions of one man mean more to a community than they know.
Dark and gritty and times, elegant at others, Wise will keep you hooked from the start in his debut gem. His ability to completely immerse the reader into a story that is so captivating is hard to miss. He smoothly and calmly draws you in, while not letting go and eliciting emotions hot and fiery. His writing reminds me of S.A. Cosby as his meticulous storytelling ability reaches creative standards that only come from seasoned authenticity. Definitely a must read and be prepared to control your emotions.
